The most important message of your life
Stop for a moment. What you are about to read is not just another religious opinion. It is the good news God has for you — and it can change your eternity.
What is the Gospel?
The word gospel comes from the Greek euangelion and literally means “good news”.
It is the heart of the Scriptures. The message that gives life to Christianity. The most important communication from God to mankind.
But this good news begins with a truth that, at first glance, seems terrible — perhaps the most devastating in the entire Bible:
God is good.
Perfectly and completely good.
Why does such an excellent truth become terrible for us?
Because the same Bible that declares God to be good also declares that man is not good. We are not merely imperfect: in our natural state we are radically selfish, corrupt and lost.
Light does not mix with darkness. Therefore we are destined for eternal separation from God — unless something extraordinary happens.
Our condition
God created us to know, honour and love Him. Instead, we rebelled. We preferred to be our own gods. The Bible calls this sin.
To sin is to miss the mark. God created us with a purpose. Every time we fail that purpose — and we fail every day — we sin.
- God is truth → when we lie, we sin.
- God is just → when we practise injustice, we sin.
- God is holy → when we act immorally or selfishly, we sin.
- God is faithful → when we are unfaithful, we sin.
And the list goes on.
You may think: “I’ve never killed anyone. I’ve never cheated on my spouse. I’m not that bad.”
But God does not judge us by our standards. He judges us by His — standards of absolute perfection. He sees the heart.
Jesus said that simply looking at someone with lust is already committing adultery in the heart (Matthew 5:27-28). He also said that whoever is angry and insults his brother is liable to judgment, as if he had committed murder (Matthew 5:22).
We can keep up an appearance of goodness on the outside. God knows what we really are on the inside.
Good works cannot save
“But I help others. I give to the poor. I go to church. Doesn’t that count?”
The Bible answers with devastating clarity:
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.” — Isaiah 64:6
And again:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9
Our best actions cannot erase a single sin. They cannot buy the favour of a holy God.
The just consequence
God has determined that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Not merely physical death, but eternal separation from Him — what the Bible calls hell.
God will not leave any sin unpaid. His justice demands satisfaction. And we have no way to pay.
The good news
Here the true good news begins.
God, in His infinite love, did what we could never do.
God became man in the person of Jesus Christ. He lived a perfect life, without any sin — fulfilling the entire Law. And then, voluntarily, He offered His life as a sacrifice for the sins of all who receive Him as Lord and Saviour.
On the cross a glorious exchange took place:
- Jesus took upon Himself our injustice, our sin, our guilt.
- And He credited to us His perfect righteousness.
He paid the debt we could never pay. He suffered the wrath of God that was due to us. He died the death we deserved.
And on the third day He rose again, conquering death and proving that the payment was accepted.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16
What must you do?
Nothing. Everything that needed to be done has already been done by Jesus.
You only need to believe — to trust in Him with sincere repentance. Repentance means recognising your condition, turning away from sin and surrendering your life to Christ as Lord.
It is not “trying to be a better person”. It is total surrender. It is saying: “Jesus, I cannot save myself. I trust only in Your work on the cross. Forgive me. Take my life.”
Today you can pray this prayer, if your heart is ready:
“Lord Jesus, I recognise that I am a sinner and do not deserve Your grace. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I repent of my life lived apart from You. I receive You now as my Lord and Saviour. Transform me. Amen.”
If you prayed this sincerely, the Bible guarantees: you are a new creation. Your sins — past, present and future — are forgiven. Your relationship with God is restored.
The one writing these words has already experienced this salvation. I would not trade the regeneration God has worked in me for anything in this world.
Life is never the same again. New desires. New strength. New hope. A living relationship with the living God.
This is the message of the Gospel. The most important anyone can hear or read.
